The land of Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini and of course Pizza and Pasta! What is Italy without any of these things? Lucky, only Italy has the best luxury sports cars in the world and the world would have been less enjoyable without having Italy by our side! Rome has many places to go on a cultural tour. The remnant of the fallen Roman Empire litters the city. The world was in awe in the glory of Rome. Some of the places are iconic structures while others are dilapidated. The most impressive form of Roman ingenuity in their architectural designs displays in the structures that withstood the tests of time.

When it comes to Italy, the first thing that comes to mind is Colosseum, next is Julius Caesar and then the massive Roman Empire that remained a dominant superpower for few centuries. Despite the modernity dotting the Roman skyline, you will still be able to find several things which remind you of the Roman’s ancient history. Rome still has many places of the old Roman Empire and some are present in a pristine condition although most lie dilapidated.

The Roman Forum and the most part of it now lie in ruins. Whatever remains of this ancient and important structure reminds us of the activity that was held during previous times.  Roman Forum - centre of public life; it was a place for public speeches, for elections and trials of criminals. The view from the Roman Forum is spectacular. You can see the Colosseum and other important ancient Roman buildings in the vicinity of the Forum.

The Pantheon
The Pantheon – One of the best preserved and well maintained building of the Roman era. The Pantheon served as the temple of Roman gods. This building is an excellent reminder of the architectural wonders of ancient Romans, their ingenuity and hard work contributing to the splendour of Rome.

Another marvel of Roman architecture that comes to mind is the Colosseum. The most famous of all the ancient Roman buildings – it’s the largest amphitheater in the world made famous in many old Hollywood movies and most recently the Oscar winning Gladiator. The structure was massive able to hold an impressive 50,000 spectators. The Colosseum was the center of Roman games, Gladiatorial matches, re-enactments of Roman battles, display of exotic creatures, etc.

 One of the most important iconic structures of Rome is St. Peter’s Basilica. It is located in the Vatican City.  It also is considered as the burial ground of St. Peter who was one of Jesus’ disciples and the first Pope. St. Peter’s Basilica is also considered as most holy of all the shrines in Christendom.  The interior of the basilica is the most impressive, the flawless artwork, and the statues of Saints make their presence felt. You will also find amazing life-like paintings adorning the walls just below the dome. The intricate details of the carvings of this important structure are fascinating.

The Vatican Museum is another place located in Vatican City. The museum boasts collections of famous painters and Popes from the renaissance period.  It has various sculpture and artifacts.

Arch of Constantine
The Arch of Constantine was the largest arch, located near the Colosseum. It was built by the Roman Senate to commemorate the victory of Constantine over Maxentius.  The arch contains some details, sculptures and carvings.

Although there are many more structures that were built after the collapse of the Roman Empire; the ones mentioned above are the most iconic and a glaring proof of the once powerful empire.
